French Press

The French Press creates a beautiful full-bodied cup of coffee. This relatively simple brewing method is a great way to experience the nuances that each coffee has to offer. The one thing to remember when brewing this method is to "press and pour." Otherwise, the coffee being in contact with the water will continue to brew and become over extracted. The beautiful thing about the French Press method is that as long as you can heat water you can enjoy French Press anywhere. Even around a campfire!

Step 1: Prepare

Have hot water between 200 and 205 degrees Fahrenheit on hand.

Step 2: Measure

Weigh out 15 grams of freshly ground coffee for every 8 ounces of water. It should be noticeably coarser than a drip grind.

Step 3: Bloom

Fill the French Press just below halfway with the very hot water, carefully saturating the bed of coffee grounds evenly. The coffee will begin to foam up and grow in volume. This is called "the bloom."

Step 4: Agitate

After a few moments of the coffee blooming grab the handle of the French press and give it a gentle agitation.

Step 5: Add water

Then evenly fill it with water to the desired level and place the lid in position. We recommend waiting about 4 minutes before plunging the grounds to the bottom.

Step 6: Depress the plunger
After pressing the grounds to the bottom, immediately pour out all of the delicious coffee into a cup. If it remains in the press, the coffee grounds will continue to brew and the result will be bitter.

Step 7: Seve and enjoy!
